The Second International Conference for the development of leaders, targeting doctors in the field of ophthalmology in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean was held in Cairo from November 27-30, 2007 . It was sponsored by the Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences in collaboration with the Middle East Council of African Ophthalmological Medicine along with WHO.

The event, which had a grand splash off at the Rochester Clinic, Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah, on October 17th, began with a session for women from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm. From October 22nd, it was thrown open for men participants also.
